The Buckland Crescent Project is an extraordinary engineering intervention that embraced the challenge of transforming a ground floor apartment into a stunning garden retreat.
Located in the heart of Belsize Park in London, this project involved the renovation of a ground floor flat that was once part of a grand stucco Victorian house, and the creation of an entirely new basement level to accommodate all the bedrooms.
The primary objective of the Buckland Crescent Project was to fully embrace the expansive garden, once part of the detached house that originally occupied the site. To achieve this, we crafted a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, providing seamless access to the garden. This layout not only fulfilled the client’s desire for ample entertaining space but also maximized enjoyment of the outdoor oasis.
To maintain a serene and tranquil atmosphere, all bedrooms and a music room were strategically positioned in the basement level. Here, a generously sized lightwell was meticulously designed to emulate the ambiance of a Japanese courtyard house, ensuring that despite being below ground level, the space felt airy and inviting.
The result is an exceptionally efficient design that effortlessly balances functionality with tranquility, creating the perfect environment for rest and relaxation. To further enhance the luxurious ambiance, a sophisticated interior palette was carefully selected to complement the client’s extensive art collection, adding an extra layer of elegance to the space.
