Fellows House London NW3
Stage: Feasibility Cgi: Lbmvarchitects
Feasibility Study for a vacant coner plot in Belsize Park. Our main challenge with the project was the strict rules requiring most of the house to be built underground. Despite this, we aimed to ensure plenty of natural light and avoid feeling under ground level. To address this challenge, we drew inspiration from traditional Japanese courtyard homes, known for their central outdoor spaces. Our design revolves around two main courtyards: one for the living areas and another for the sleeping quarters. This creates two distinct atmospheres and levels of privacy within the home. A monumental staircase serves as a dramatic focal point, leading from ground level to the below-ground living spaces. This architectural feature enhances the vertical experience, inviting exploration into a space designed for both spectacle and tranquility
