LYNDHURST GARDENS London NW3
Stage: Completed Year: 2018 Photos: LBMVarchitects
The project at Lyndhurst Gardens focused on the renovation and restoration of the garden flat, which was once the ground floor level of a single detached house, originally known as Tintern Lyndhurst Gardens, Grade II Listed in Hampstead, North London.
Built in 1886 by Harry B Measures for William Willett and Son, prominent builder-developers of that time, this house showcases the architectural characteristics of the Queen Anne style.
The design concept primarily focuses on restoring the original room layouts, emphasizing proportions and reinstating period features. However, there was a shift in approach towards a more contemporary style, resulting in significant alterations to the original room structures. To create additional space for a kitchen and a small music room, modern rear and side extensions were incorporated into the layout of the flat.
The modern rear extension features a striking open glass corner, seamlessly connecting the indoor space with the external area.
The external space is designed as an elevated platform, offering a vantage point to fully appreciate the garden view. This layout allows residents to immerse themselves in the beauty of the surroundings from an elevated perspective.
